White Laurel
Developed by Northwestern Enterprises, Inc., White Laurel provides accessible, affordable housing for very low-income families, including large families. Six one-level garden apartments are fully outfitted for handicapped accessibility and provide the choice of 2 two-bedroom and 4 four-bedroom apartments. The remaining 36 apartments are three-story townhouse design, with two floors of living space above a garage; they comprise 20 two-bedroom and 16 three-bedroom apartments. Community facilities include three playgrounds, a tot lot and walking trails. A management office, family services center and maintenance area are located on the entry road to the development. Adjoining the property are the facilities of the District Health Department, Mental Health Department and Community College. Major shopping facilities and en elementary school are located within one mile of the site. The local public transportation system serves the area several times daily. All units have project-based Section 8 vouchers from the Northwestern Regional Housing Authority, ensuring that residents pay no more than 30% of their adjusted family income or pay the minimum rent of $25 per month. All residents are required to participate in the family self-sufficiency program of NHRA.
